What is MIT?

Well, besides a school back east, MIT is a program from Awana. It stands for Missionary in Training, as you can see from the nifty logo to my right. It is designed for high school through college age kids who have been involved in Awana. (if you don't know what Awana is try their website. See right pane.) Awana puts together teams of 6 to 10 teenagers from around the US with a Christian couple as team leaders and organizes mission trips to locations in the inner city US and over seas. There are many different opportunities and MIT is always changing. Again the Awana website is your best reference. (See link above.) This trip was a Next Step trip, meaning that we had all been on an MIT trip before. We had all been to various places such as South Africa, Dominica, Chzech Republic, LA, Togo, and Houston. The program's goal is to give young people the chance to experience missionary life and learn about serving God. Many participants go on to be full-time missionaries, and many are challenged to serve God where they are. It is an eye-opening experience to step outside your comfort zone and see God working in other parts of the world. And it is excellent training for serving God later in life.
